How does Foil Surfing work? 

Foil surfing uses a hydrofoil in conjunction with a surfboard, SUP, wakeboard, windsurf board, kiteboard, or any other board you could imagine. A hydrofoil has a front and back wing that works by creating lift and reducing drag. This lift allows the board to rise out of the water, offering a sensation that feels as though you are flying. Conversely, traditional boards are designed to stay on the surface of the water and use the energy from a wave to generate speed. 

Foil surfing requires you to pump the board to generate lift and speed. The pumping motion is similar to that of pumping a skateboard down the street and can be quite tiring. This means you are not dependent on the waves, and can surf smaller or larger waves, or even ride without waves at all. 

The next piece of equipment you'll need to get started with wake foiling is a wake foil rope and handle. These ropes are different from traditional wakeboard ropes because they are designed to be shorter and have less stretch.
